The Pacific Ocean, 22 March 2001 — Framed by the aft entrance to a CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter, Senior Chief Aviation Boatswain's Mate John Marcella walks the flight deck in front of a CH-53C Sea Stallion aboard USS Essex (LHD 2) while underway off the coast of Okinawa, Japan. USS Essex is participating in a Special Operations exercise.
