Japanese UH-1H Helicopter

Hokkaido, Japan, 21 February 2003 — United States Marine scout snipers from 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment and their counterparts in the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force practiced helicopter insertions while wearing cross country skis and poles for deep snow insertions. The exercise was one segment of a two-part, semi-annual, bilateral training exercise with the JGSDF that focuses on the interoperability of U.S. and Japanese forces in a combat environment. The other segment of the exercise took place during October 2002.
